About Calcuvelo

Calcuvelo is a small, free collection of calculators for everyday money questions: how fast savings grow, what a mortgage really costs, whether a debt payoff plan works, what a salary is worth after tax. We try to explain every calculator well enough that you never have to take our word for the answer.

Who we are

Calcuvelo is an independent project based in Toronto, Ontario. The site is built by people with a background in economics and personal finance who wanted clean, honest calculators without sign-ups or clutter.

Why we built it

Many calculator sites are cluttered, US-only, or do not explain their math. So on every page we show the formula, worked examples and the assumptions behind the numbers, with a focus on Canadian rules where they apply — Ontario take-home pay, RRSPs and TFSAs, CPP, OSAP, GIC ladders and mortgage prepayment penalties. Our guides go a step further and walk through the thinking behind several of the decisions.

How the calculators are built

Every tool is built on a standard, documented formula — the loan amortization formula for mortgages and car loans, compound growth for savings, the annuity formulas for present and future value, the Fisher relationship for real returns, and the published tax and benefit rules for the Canadian tools. The page for each calculator explains its method in plain language with the variables defined, so you can verify any result by hand or in a spreadsheet.

The calculators run entirely in your web browser. The numbers you type are not sent to a server, there are no accounts, and nothing you enter is stored by the site. (Our Privacy Policy explains what advertising partners can collect, which is separate from your calculator inputs.)

How we check accuracy

We start from standard formulas. The worked examples on each page are generated by the calculators themselves, so the explanation and the tool always agree. Tax rules, limits and benefit amounts are dated by tax year on the page, and we update them when they change. Where a rule of thumb is involved, such as the 28/36 housing ratios or the 4% withdrawal rule, the page says it is a guideline and not a law.

Corrections are always welcome. If a result looks wrong, please use the contact page and tell us the calculator name and the exact inputs you used, and we will look into it.

Independence

We do not accept payment from lenders or financial companies, and advertising never influences what the calculators show. Calcuvelo is free to use and supported by advertising from Google AdSense; ads are placed by the ad network, not chosen by us.

What the calculators can and can’t do

These are estimates built on the assumptions you enter. They do not know your full tax situation, your lender’s fine print or what markets will do. They are good for comparing options and getting your bearings, and they are not a substitute for a professional who can see your whole picture. Calcuvelo is for educational purposes only and is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice; the Terms of Service say so in more detail.
